The Anticapitalist Left Cooperation for the Overthrow (ANTARSYA) expresses its internationalist solidarity and its full support to the eight Spanish antifascists, volunteers in Donbass who were arrested on February the 27^th by the Spanish antiterrorist police service.

The “crime” of the eight Spanish antifascists was that they participated in the struggle during the previous year in the cities and villages of Donbass -where the Ukrainian army bombards innocent citizens, hospitals and kindergartens - in order to provide help to the local population. The “crime” of the eight Spanish antifascists was that they first broke the wall of silence and misinformation that is lifted in the European continent, speaking about the crimes that were and are committed against the local population in Eastern Ukraine. The Spanish antifascists, who were not professional-mercenaries, participated in the struggle of the Ukrainian people because of their passion for freedom and justice, because of their pure antifascist sentiments and a deep humanism. That's why they never tried to hide their faces. They saved the honor of the European States which closed - and keep closing- their eyes before the rise of the far-right in Ukraine, before nazi-style crimes, as was the case with the House of Syndicates in Odessa that was set on fire, on May, 2 2014.

The vindictive attitude of the government of Mariano Rajoy, arresting them some hours after their announced return in Spain and accusing them of “terrorism”, is indicative of the attitude of E.U. and NATO member-states. It comes after the open support of the Ukrainian far-right, the stirring of nationalist hatred and the dangerous for the global peace warmongering tactics that E.U. and NATO forces follow in Ukraine. The Spanish antifascist-volunteers in Donbas did not pose a threat to any “neutrality” of the Spanish government because such a neutrality does not exist. It is telling that in all Europe there is not a single arrest of any far-right volunteer from those who rushed to support the fascist, paramilitary units of the Ukrainian army. The arrests of the eight antifascists constitute a political act that characterizes Rajoy's government at a time when is examined in Europe and the US the possibility of an extensive military support to the Ukrainian warmongering regime. It cannot but remind us the fate of the Greek-antifascist volunteers, who fought for democracy against Franko in the Spanish civil war, under the Metaxa's dicatorship in Greece... As ANTARSYA we demand for the immediate release of the eight spanish antifascists and the cessation of their persecution.
